Rodaro - Schioppettino

This 2017 wine is 100% Schioppettino, carrying the DOP of Friuli Colli Orientali, Italy. Paolo Rodaro, a sixth - generation winemaker from a family estate that has been crafting wine since 1846, is an experienced pro. Schioppettino is a tricky grape variety that almost disappeared in the late 19th century as growers switched to more popular and profitable grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon. In the glass, it's a lively and fascinating wine with flavors of ripe blackberries, dark plums, cracked black pepper, cloves, and dried wild herbs. It pairs perfectly with smoky pulled pork, spezzatino di vitello (veal and mixed bell pepper stew), or pizza margherita!
